In My Opinion
I read the first book in this series, Natural Selection. It was really wonderful. It moved quickly and had just enough tension to keep the pages turning. I couldn’t wait for the second book to come out.
Sharp builds complex and unique characters. I never feel like I know what they will do next. There are twists and turns you don’t imagine and the characters grow and develop along with the storyline. This second book develops the characters so you see not only their strengths but also the vulnerabilities and weaknesses. We begin to see
Second Nature is clearly an extension of the first book and leaves room for future stories. It feels like things are left unresolved between several characters and they have more growth and challenges to come.
The story reaches across the time span from the first book and carries over some of the antagonist characters. One of the things I really like about Sharp’s writing is, though most antagonists tend to be one dimensional, she gives us some insight into their motivations and desires. It is rare to watch the development of the villains along with the heros. You can almost feel pity for them. Of course then they prove their worth as a villain and do something to justify your dislike.
This book was hard for me to put this one down. I anxiously await future stories from Elizabeth Sharp. She is a talented writer.
