Infertility: causes, symptoms and treatment
What is infertility?
Infertility is a condition defined as an inability to conceive or conceive after a period of serious attempts without success. Infertility can be caused by problems in a man or a woman or both together, and it can be a primary infertility (i.e. the inability to conceive at all) or a secondary infertility (i.e. difficulty in procreating after a previous pregnancy).
The causes of infertility can be:
Women’s reasons:
Ovulation disorders.
Blockage or damage to fallopian tubes.
Uterine problems such as uterine fiber or adhesions.
Men’s reasons:
Low sperm count or twice their movement.
Hurling problems.
abnormalities in the reproductive system.
Hormonal disorders affect sperm production.
Symptoms of infertility
Symptoms of infertility may vary between men and women, but there are some general symptoms that may indicate a fertility problem:
Women:
– Menstrual irregularities or permanent absence
– Abnormal pain or bleeding during the course
– abnormal discharge of the vagina
– Pain or convulsions in the pelvis
– Unexplained weight gain or underweight
– Changes in hair or skin
Men:
– Difficulty or inability to erect
– Reduced libido
– Pain or swelling of the testicles
– Presence of lumps or tumors in the testicular area
– Penis secretions
– Low volume and thickness of semen
Can infertility be treated?
There are many other common therapeutic options for infertility, which can be explored in detail:
1. Drug Therapy:
– Treatment of hormonal disorders such as thyroid disorders or pituitary gland
– Use of drugs to stimulate ovulation in women
– Treatment of fertility in men such as hormonal therapy or medication to increase sperm production
2. IVF:
– Intrauterine insemination (IUI): injection of sperm into the womb
– Insemination in test tubes (IVF): outside the body, then transplant fertilized egg into the womb
– Microscopic injection: one sperm injection directly into the egg
3. Auxiliary reproductive techniques:
– Donation of eggs or sperm
– Alternative pregnancy or “rented abdomen”
– Freezing of eggs or sperm for future use
4. Surgery:
– Repairing defects in the reproductive channel
– Removal of tumors or blockages in the reproductive channel
